Protein is the most essential nutrient for your body. Protein is the Building Block of your Muscles, Skin, Hair, Nails, Enzymes and horomones. It plays an Essential role for your all body tissues. It forms the enzymes that boost chemical reactions and also makes up the hemoglobin that carries oxygen in your blood.

Requirements of Protein in a day:

  • If you don't go to gym or don't workout then you can intake 1gm protein per kg of your body weight.
  • If you go to gym or do workout then you can intake 1.6 to 2.0gm Protein per kg of  your body weight.
If you want your body to function seamlessly, then you should ensure loading up on enough Protein. Protein Deficiency is when your intake is unable to meet your body's requirements.

Symptoms Of Protein Deficiency:


1. Food Cravings

If you always feel hungry and have Cravings for food and snacks it may be because of low Protein, High Carb and Sugar Diet. The issue could be that you have unlimited access to high calorie food in which the amount of Protein is low in comparison to its calorie count.

2. Loss Of Muscle Loss

When the body isn't getting enough Protein from food sources then the body tends to take Protein from Skeletal Muscle to  preserve more important tissues and body functions. This condition is known as muscle wasting which can lead to a loss of energy and strength.

3. Bone Fractures or Breaks

Since Protein is needed for Calcium absorption. Lack of Protein in your diet caused bone weakness, Slow bone healings and fractures.

4. Skin, hair and Nail Problems

Protein Deficiency may leave its mark on the skin, hair and Nails. All of which are largely made of Protein like elastin, Collagen and Keratin. There are chances you may see redness on the skin, brittle nails, thin hair, faded hair colour. All of which are considered symptoms of Protein Deficiency.

5. Edema

Edema which is characterized by swollen and puffy skin, is a classic symptom of kwashiorkor. Scientists believes it is caused by low amounts of human serum albumin. Albumin is the most abundant Protein in the liquid part of blood or blood plasma. Main function of albumin to maintain oncotic pressure. A force that draws fluid into the blood circulation. In this way albumin prevents excessive amounts of fluid from accumulating in tissues or other body compartments.

6. Moodiness and Anxiousness

If you not getting enough Protein then decreased the level of neurotransmitter like Dopamine and Serotonin in your body which Control your mood. These two horomones that help bring on positive feelings like calm.

7. Slow Healing Injuries

People who are low on Protein often find their cuts and scrapes take longer to get better. It could be another effect of your body not making enough collagen which is found in connective tissues as well as your skin.

8. Poor Immunity System

Amino Acids in your blood helps to make antibodies. Antibodies that activates white blood cells to fight off infections and toxins. So if you not getting enough Protein then you become regularly illness.

9. Fatty Livers

Another common symptom of kwashiorkor is a fatty liver or fat accumulation in liver cells, Left untreated, the condition may develop into fatty liver disease, Causing inflammation, liver scarring and potentially liver failure. Fatty liver is a common condition in obese people as well as those who consume lot of alcohol. Studies suggest that an impaired synthesis of fat transporting Proteins know as lipo Proteins may contribute this condition.

10. Stunted growth in Children

Protein not only helps maintain muscle and bone mass but it's also essential for body growth. This, Deficiency or insufficiency is especially harmful to children whose growing bodies require a steady supply. 


  • To get enough Protein you should eat Protein rich foods like Chicken breast, Eggs, Salmon, Paneer, Lentils, Beans, Milks and Peanuts.
